Fresh and used cat litter can be composted, free of charge, at the transfer station’s organics composting program (please see Project C.O.W. for more information) or in your curbside compost container (if applicable).
Not all litter is created equal. Anything with “fragrance” or that is “scented” should not be put in the compost. Think natural… If your litter is made from natural materials like wood, corn cobs, soy, or any plant material, that is best. Clay-based litters are also okay. Anything made from synthetic materials should not be put in Project C.O.W. compost; it should be put into your household trash.
NOTE: If the litter is in a compostable bag, it is safe to toss the entire bag into the compost hopper. If you are using any other type of plastic bag, it must be dumped out, and the bag can be put in the trash barrel located next to the compost dumpster.
Please look for the BPI- Certified or TUV Certification for truly compostable bags.

*An access sticker is required to compost and/or dispose of cat litter
