Project C.O.W. (Composting Organic Waste) allows residents, businesses, and schools to recycle food scraps and other organic materials. It’s free to do your composting here at WSWMD year-round, but an access sticker is required.

Compost the following items in the Project C.O.W. bin:

Food Scraps Non-Food Items
Bread/Rolls/Crackers Used Napkins & Paper Towels
Rice/Pasta/Beans Pizza Boxes & Soiled Cardboard
Egg Shells Damp/Wet, Non-Glossy Paper
Cheese/Dairy Products BPI Certified Compostable Bags
Cooked or Raw Meats & Fish/Bones Paper Plates/Paper Cups
Shellfish (Including Bones) Cardboard Egg Cartons
Fruits/Vegetables Paper Sugar or Flour Bags (without plastic liners)
Coffee Grounds Coffee Filters
Cooking Oils/Fats (solidified or liquid) Tea Bags
Pet Waste/Kitty Litter- if in bags, BPI compostable

Do Not Compost:

Plastic Bags, Plastic Wrappers, Twist Ties, Rubber Bands, Frozen Food Containers, Milk/Juice/Broth cartons, Liquids, Aluminum Foil, Plastic Utensils, Trash, Metal, Glass, Dryer Lint, Animal or Human Hair and Styrofoam.

Please remove PLU stickers from produce!

Do not recycle leaves, grass, or brush in C.O.W. dumpsters. See the scale house attendant for further instructions on disposing of these items.
