As of December 2025, WSWMD has a separate recycling bin for mixed paper. This bin is currently located next to the glass bin, opposite the single-stream and cardboard bins. We use the term ‘mixed paper’ to identify all of the different paper materials that can be recycled.
Acceptable items include the following:
-
-
- Office paper
- Magazines
- Newspaper
- Junk mail
- Envelopes
- Posters
- Paperback books
- Hardcover book pages (covers should be trashed)
- Egg cartons
- Cereal boxes and other boxboard boxes (please do not put these in the cardboard bins anymore)
- Brown packing paper
- Brown shopping bags
- Shredded paper (should be bagged in a brown bag or contained in a box)
-
*No binder clips, paper clips, metal hanging folders (if metal is removed, the folder is recyclable), soda & beer carriers (called “wet strength packaging”), frozen food boxes, Tyvek or plastic-lined envelopes, gift wrap, or milk or broth containers. When in doubt, keep it out. Contamination (unacceptable items) can cause our paper to get rejected at the paper mill.

*An access sticker is required for paper recycling
