Paper grocery bags are recyclable at recycling drop-off locations or in your curbside recycling container.

Soiled paper grocery bags are not recyclable, but can be composted, FREE of charge, in the Windham Solid Waste Management District’s organics composting program or your curbside compost container (if applicable). Please see Project C.O.W. for more information.

Plastic grocery bags that enter our facility get caught in the belts and damage the equipment! Plastic grocery bags are NOT recyclable at recycling drop-off locations or in your curbside recycling container.

If you are interested in recycling your plastic grocery bags check with your local super market (Aldi, Food Co-ops, Hannaford’s, Price Chopper, etc.) to learn about their collection programs.

Otherwise, please dispose of your plastic bags in your household trash.
