Computers, TVs, and other Electronics

Vermont E-Cycles

In Vermont, computers, televisions, and many other electronics, also known as “e-waste,” are banned from disposal in the trash or as scrap metal. In order to have e-waste properly handled, Vermont passed an “Extended Producer Responsibility” (EPR) law that requires manufacturers to create, or pay for, an effective system to recycle the wastes throughout the state.

WSWMD is a collection site for this state-run program. Vermont residents, small businesses (10 or fewer employees)** and public schools can recycle the following items at our transfer station at no cost, and no access permit required:

  • Computers (including PCs, laptops, tablets, and chromebooks)
  • TVs (and computer monitors)
  • Printers (table-top only, includes 3-in-1 print/copy/scanners)
  • Computer peripherals (such as mice, keyboards, computer speakers, modems, routers)

**Larger businesses may drop computers, peripherals, and TVs but are subject to a $.29 fee per pound for disposal**

Other Electronics

The state-run EPR program only covers the electronics in the bullet list above. What about other items like game consoles, stereos, telephones, and VCRs? Fortunately, those items can also be recycled, even though the state-run program doesn’t cover them. WSWMD charges $5 per item. (This also includes LED bulbs, as they can be recycled with other electronics)

As usual, please stop at the scale house before leaving anything at our transfer station.

No access sticker or day pass is required to recycle electronics
