Bakeware can NOT be placed in the recycling drop-off containers or in your curbside recycling containers. If bakeware is in good useable condition, it may be donated to a local reuse/resale shop. Bags (Paper)
Empty paper bags can be recycled at drop-off locations, here at WSWMD or in your curbside recycling container. Brown paper bags (shopping bags) can be recycled with cardboard. Other bags, of white paper and such, would go into mixed recycling.
Bathtubs (Cast-iron or Other Metal)
Cast-iron or other metal bathtubs are accepted during normal business hours. Cost: See our Fees and Materials Accepted under “Scrap Metal”
Bricks
Bricks are accepted during normal business hours and the cost is based on weight. Cost: Calculated based on weight. See our Fees and Materials Accepted under “Construction & Demolition”
Bathtubs (Fiberglass or Plastic)
Fiberglass or plastic bathtubs are accepted during normal business hours. Please cut the tubs in half. Cost: Calculated based on weight. See our Fees and Materials Accepted under “Trash”
Freezers
Freezers are banned from Vermont landfills. Freezers contain environmentally harmful refrigerants that must be removed prior to recycling. The doors or lid must be removed prior to recycling. Cost: See our Fees and Materials Accepted under “Appliances (with freon)” Commercial freezers & coolers are subject to higher disposal costs
Refrigerators
Refrigerators are banned from Vermont landfills. Refrigerators contain environmentally harmful refrigerants that must be removed prior to recycling. The Windham Solid Waste Management District accepts refrigerators during normal business hours. The doors must be removed prior to recycling. Humidifiers
Humidifiers are banned from Vermont landfills. The Windham Solid Waste Management District accepts humidifiers during normal business hours. Cost: See our Fees and Materials Accepted under “Appliances (without freon)”
Weed Killer
Weed Killer is a hazardous material and banned from Vermont landfills. All hazardous materials must be brought to our Hazardous Waste Depot.
Varnish
Varnish can be brought in for FREE and collected with our Paint Recycle program. Please see the scale house attendant for more information. The Varnish must be in a non-rusty container with the label readable. Upholstery Cleaner
Most upholstery cleaners are hazardous and banned from Vermont landfills. If the cleaner is all natural, please clean out the container and put it into the recycling bin or trash. All hazardous materials must be brought to one of our Hazardous Waste Collection Events.
