Windham Solid Waste does not have a permit for composting human waste, and although it appears “compost-like”, it’s not allowed to be mixed in our compost as it was once human waste. WSWMD is not certified to handle human waste or its by-products, at any stage of degradation, unless it is bagged and brought in as trash to go to the landfill.
For urine bottles, partner with our tenant, Rich Earth Institute, and learn how to peecycle! (Donate your urine in Brattleboro and Rockingham) Check them out for more information and see their newest video here!
For solids, your disposal options are very limited:
- Bag it and bring it into the transfer station as trash* or
- With a proper wastewater permit, bury it on your own land, and
- Please see this official guidance from the state of VT Agency of Natural Resources for more detailed information.
*An access sticker would be required to bring trash to the WSWMD Transfer Station
