Asbestos

| A-Z Disposal Guide

Asbestos-Containing Material (ACM) is not accepted at our facility in any form.

Asbestos & Lead Program:

  • If the asbestos is friable (easily crumbled) such as in pipe insulation, it must be handled by an asbestos abatement contractor as it is very dangerous once it becomes airborne. Search for “Asbestos Abatement & Removal” or “Asbestos Consulting & Testing.”
  • If the asbestos is non-friable (such as found in siding, flooring tiles, and roofing shingles) it may be removed under Section 6 exemptions of the Vermont Regulations for Asbestos Control (VRAC) when certain procedures are followed. The procedures include practices such as wetting the material, keeping the pieces intact, double bagging with 6mil bags, and using a licensed contractor and/or disposal facility.

More Information

Scientific studies show exposure to asbestos is linked to several diseases, including cancers. Mesothelioma is a type of cancer almost exclusively caused by asbestos exposure. The mineral also causes asbestos-related lung cancer, ovarian cancer and laryngeal cancer. For more information regarding mesothelioma, please visit this page.
