| A-Z Disposal Guide

WSWMD does not accept medications at the transfer station. However, it’s NOT safe to put drugs into your trash or flush into municipal water supplies or your septic system! Please read through the disposal options listed below.

  • In Brattleboro, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, prescriptions can be dropped off at the drop-off box located in the Main Lobby. Pills, patches, inhalers, and liquids may be dropped off at BMH. Please call the hospital if you require more information. 802-257-0341
  • In Townshend, at Grace Cottage Hospital, there is a drop-off box located in the Messenger Valley Pharmacy, follow this link for direct contact information.
  • Contact your local pharmacy, Windham County Sheriff’s Department, and/or your local police station for more local information.
  • The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has published this page to help with medication disposal.
  • The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) also sponsors federal take-back days, go here to check out their website.
  • Vermont now offers a free mail-in, mail-back system for unwanted or expired prescriptions. Aerosols (inhalers) cannot be mailed back.
