WSWMD Solar Project
WSWMD has an agreement with Greenbacker Capital to operate our 5 megawatt AC solar array on the District’s closed and capped landfill. WSWMD will receive lease payments in the amount of $102,000 annually for at least a total of 20 years.
The project consists of:
- Approximately 15,936 solar panels on 21 acres.
- 3,108 concrete supports on the landfill so there is no penetration of the landfill cap.
- 83 inverters to convert DC to AC.
Solar energy credits and significant cost savings from this solar project will last for at least 20 years and will go to the following schools and institutions: Brattleboro Union High School, Brattleboro Middle School, Dummerston School, Guilford Central School, Putney Central School, Vernon Elementary School, the Brattleboro Retreat, Landmark College, Marlboro College, and Windham Solid Waste Management District.
The solar array was energized on July 3, 2018.
